The Benefit of Virtual Fitness Challenge Groups

Getting in shape alone can be a challenge for many people.  Even if you use a good home workout video led by the top fitness gurus it is still sometimes difficult to stay motivated.  Why?  Because life happens.  Maybe you had a long day at work.  Or maybe you have to do things with the kids.  You may even have to run errands or make an unplanned trip to the store to get something else needed for dinner. Whatever it is may just be enough to leave you feeling unmotivated to work out. Sometimes we need that extra motivation that someone can offer us to keep pushing toward our fitness goals. But don’t think the only way to do this is by joining a class at the gym or getting a personal trainer.  As a result of technology and the explosion of social media, virtual fitness challenge groups continue to grow in popularity.  These groups consist of people who share a common interest in getting healthier and more fit while utilizing technology to form virtual support systems.  This may include participants reaching out to each other in social media groups, inboxes, instant messaging, online groups, etc.  The convenience (and in many cases money savings) virtual fitness challenge groups offer is awesome…at least it was for me.  Here are a few reasons why you should consider joining one.

No Need to Leave Home

The fitness challenge groups I have found in the past year were all those I could connect with via social media, an app (i.e. MyFitnessPal), or a website (i.e.  I chose to join a Facebook group since I was on there everyday anyway.  So there really was no need to leave home for my workouts unless I wanted to.  I did most of my sweaty workouts right in my living
leg dayroom or bedroom.  And whenever I needed to get that extra motivation to work out or eat a healthy meal all I had to do was check Facebook which, again, I had already been doing.

Money Saver

Gone are the days when you had to pay to join fitness groups such as those you may find at the local gym or other fitness facilities.  You can even turn to virtual fitness challenge groups instead of getting a personal trainer.  This is what I decided to do after looking at all my options money picfor choosing a fitness program.  With the trainer, I would have ended up paying between $100-$200 for 3 sessions. With a couple of other programs I looked into it would have been a few hundred (one closer to $1000).  But joining the virtual fitness challenge group I worked out with for one month was totally free AND I lost over 12 pounds and some inches.  So glad I was able to get the results without dishing out all the cash!

Support with Accountability

I have a gym membership.  But quite honestly, there have been times when I just did not feel like going to the gym…and there was no one pushing or keeping me motivated to go.  With a virtual fitness challenge group such as the one I joined we kept in contact daily via inboxes and 1426949155810group chats.  And again this was all FOR FREE.  All we were required to do was send in our weekly weigh-ins, measurements, and pictures we took of ourselves to stay in the program.  It really was all about holding one another accountable.

Flexibility with Workouts

With a virtual fitness challenge group there really is no need to attend a class at a certain time or go to the gym during your lunch break while the kids are in school.  And typically you are free to do whatever workout you choose.  My program of choice was Beachbody’s 21 Day Fix Extreme since the group I joined only did Beachbody programs.  But the main benefit here is that you choose whenever and wherever you want to work out as long as you are doing what you need to do to see results.

These are just a few benefits I experienced by joining a virtual fitness challenge group.  The group I belong to, Fit, Fyne & Fabulous, is still going strong and constantly adding new members.  Through our inbox and group chats, picture and recipe sharing on the group’s Facebook page, and weekly accountability check-ins it was definitely well worth the experience.

If you’re looking for some extra motivation and are ready to get serious about getting fit but don’t want to spend a lot of money then I highly recommend that you check out a virtual fitness challenge fitnessgroup.  You can’t go wrong with gaining a healthier you and saving a load of money, right? 🙂

Here are a few sites and apps I’ve tried that I highly recommend if you are looking for a virtual fitness challenge group:

Beachbody (specializes in home fitness programs) (they now have a male version of the group, too!)

MyFitnessPal app

Nike+ Running app

Good luck with your journey to fitness!
