It can be quite challenging to choose a protein powder. With SOOO many to choose from claiming the same or similar benefits how do you decide? Â I have struggled with this, too, but not anymore! Â Check out my review on the top 3 I liked and factors I considered to settle on the one I’m drinking now. Â
DISCLAIMER: I’m a Beachbody coach so let me just mention that first. But please believe me when I say I’m not bias at all when comparing it to other protein powders.
Tastes great when blended: My favorite flavor of Shakeology is chocolate vegan and I like to blend it with ingredients that make it taste more like a dessert smoothie such as frozen bananas, peanut butter, almond milk, and ice. Â So it becomes more of a treat than a healthy protein shake.
Complete protein: The chocolate vegan flavor of Shakeology I love has all nine (9) of the essential amino acids making it a complete protein. Â This comes from the blend of brown rice protein, pea protein, chia, amaranth, quinoa, and flax it contains. Â For the non-vegan flavors of Shakeology whey is used as a protein source, which is also a complete protein.
“Superfood” ingredients: Shakeology helps to simplify nutrition with its superfood-packed blend of fruits, vegetables (some quite exotic), herbs, and roots.  The combination provides nutrition that is essential to a healthy diet such as pre-biotics, pro-biotics, and antioxidants.  So even if you aren’t able to eat enough fruit and vegetables daily (which many of us aren’t) then you can still get what you need by drinking Shakeology.
Great for meal replacement and curbing hunger: There are some days when I am running around so much that I do not have time to cook a meal. Â And it is sometimes a struggle to get healthy food on-the-go as most restaurant offerings simply don’t provide this. Â So I have used Shakeology as a meal replacement numerous times. Â The ingredients it contains also helps me to stay full until my next meal or snack.
30-day money back guarantee: If you aren’t impressed with Shakeology you can return the bag (even if it’s empty) for a full refund. Â Pretty cool!
If you would like to try out Shakeology you can go to my shop page here or contact me for samples.
Shakeology only tastes great when blended:Â I have drank it before blended only with sweetened almond milk and it was OK…not too bad. Â But I don’t like it just with water.
Price:Â Shakeology is considered by many to be a bit pricey. Â But I think it depends on how you look at it. Â You can pay the price to buy Shakeology monthly or however often you choose and be confident that you are getting the nutrition you need in a cup. Trying to buy all these ingredients separately can get quite expensive.
Cannot buy in stores: Shakeology is only available for purchase via a Beachbody coach (such as myself) or the Beachbody website (if there are other ways to buy it I don’t know about them).
Plant-based organic protein:Â Vega is a line of protein supplements that are all plant-based. Â So this may be a great choice for those who are on a vegan diet or looking for a vegan shake that serves as a complete protein. Â It may also serve as a good alternative to Shakeology based on the next “pro” I found for this protein powder. Additionally, it is organic so free from GMOs if you are concerned with that.
Nice price: Compared to Shakeology the Vega protein shake mix is more budget-friendly at between $50 and $60 for a 30-day supply.
Can buy in stores: I bought my Vega at Whole Foods…no need to order it and pay extra fees such as shipping costs.
Taste isn’t so great: Like many protein powders the taste of the Vega All-in-One chocolate flavor wasn’t that good to me. I really tried to like it but just didn’t. Â Even after blending it with my fave protein shake ingredients (frozen bananas, almond milk, peanut butter, ice) I still was not feeling the taste of it. Â Can’t quite explain it but the taste just didn’t do it for me and I would say Shakeology chocolate vegan tasted a lot better. Â So after a few times of trying it I decided to give up on the Vega shake.
Tastes great even without being blended: I could not believe how great this protein powder tasted just mixed in water! The guy at the supplement store from where I purchased it allowed me to sample the ice cream sandwich flavor and quite honestly I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
Blends very well: In addition to the great taste of this protein powder it also blends well. Â Even when the guy at the supplement store shook it up with water for me to try as a sample I did not taste any chunks. Â When I make it at home blended with my fave ingredients it actually ends up with a consistency similar to that of a chocolate frosty at Wendy’s. Â So this is definitely a treat! (The Level-1 shake is actually what’s pictured in the featured image for this post).
Nice price: I paid around $50 for a 30-day supply of Level-1. Â So again it is quite cheaper than Shakeology and comparable to the Vega protein shake I had tried but tastes a lot better.
Can buy in stores: I bought my Level-1 at a supplement store so as with Vega there is no need to order this protein powder and pay extra fees such as shipping costs.
Good amount of protein and other key ingredients: One scoop of the Level-1 protein powder contains 24 grams of protein. Â It also contains five grams of BCAAs (branched chain amino acids), which are known to support lean muscle mass.
Whey protein not for some: The only con I can think of for the Level-1 protein powder is that it consists of whey protein. Â So if you are looking for a non-dairy protein powder then you would need to choose something different.
I hope you have found my review helpful. Â It can be quite daunting to choose one since there are so many on the market today. Â But just remember to go with the one that best fits your fitness goals, taste buds, and pockets 🙂
