So my journey to explore more about urban farming continues and the more I learn the more interesting I find this concept to be!  I recently visited the future site of the Downtown Community Garden that Urban Harvest STL is planning.  This community garden is part of their effort to utilize space available on unused rooftops for urban farming. They are also in the final throws of getting the first rooftop farm started in downtown St Louis, the FOOD ROOF Farm, which will provide food and education for the community through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program.
What you are looking at in the picture posted here is a rooftop downtown that rarely gets used and will soon get turned into a community garden where the crops grown will be potted.  Please be sure to check back for updates on my blog as I follow their process with more information and pictures!  You can also find plenty of information at the official website for this effort, www.urbanharvest.org.
If you are interested in learning more about urban farming and would like to get involved they are looking for volunteers to help them with the garden.  Currently, they are in the process of moving the garden from MLK Drive to the top deck of a downtown parking garage (pictured).  The dates they currently have planned for this and the link to RSVP are as follows:
Saturday, March 22nd, 10am – 4pm (two shifts, 10-1 and 1-4)
Saturday, March 29th, 10am – 4pm (two shifts, 10-1 and 1-4)
They are also in need of trucks and trailers that are needed for transporting materials.  If you can help to provide this please contact them as soon as possible at email@example.com.
